Running bitcoin
and Substack too
Welcome to the Nebraska Bitcoin Association blog! We are a nonpartisan nonprofit with a mission to educate Nebraskans about Bitcoin - protocol, network, and asset - to protect freedom in the digital age. We’ll routinely write pieces here of varying length and complexity, sharing what we’ve learned and promoting opportunities for our state to flourish. We hope you’ll subscribe and give us copious feedback.
While this is a short announcement post, we’ll always include something novel to ponder. If you’re new to Bitcoin, consider the following historical quotes as signposts pointing to its grassroots origin (emphasis ours):
“In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold.” - Alan Greenspan, 1966
“I don’t believe we shall ever have a good money again before we take the thing out of the hands of government - that is, we can’t take them violently out of the hands of government, all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can’t stop.” - F.A. Hayek, 1984
“I think that the Internet is going to be one of the major forces for reducing the role of government. The one thing that’s missing, but that will soon be developed, is a reliable e-cash, a method whereby on the Internet you can transfer funds from A to B without A knowing B or B knowing A.” - Milton Friedman, 1999
“I’ve been working on a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party.” - Satoshi Nakamoto, 2008
Thanks for reading! We’ll be back with more soon.
